Laurent Ferrier has always drawn its inspiration from the time-honored traditions of Fine Watchmaking. These vintage influences, combined with the eponymous designer’s professional experience, make it possible to create watches that are much more than mere tools for telling the time but real multisensory experiences. Today, Laurent Ferrier has decided to actively champion contemporary art by supporting Swiss Institute’s TimeForArt auction for its very first edition.
Because Arts and Fine Watchmaking have always been closely linked, Laurent Ferrier conceived this unique timepiece as an ode to both creativity and to the age-old expertise of traditional Haute Horlogerie. This unique interpretation of the Classic Micro-Rotor embodies a return to Art Deco codes with its 1930s aesthetic characteristic. Unmistakably modern, this artistic style is based on a certain geometric rigor, minimalism and graphic stylization.
Forest green roman numerals give the piece a vintage feel while offering exceptional legibility. Finely decaled here with an Art Deco touch, they are combined with a modern, architectural hour circle. These minimalist green transfers beautifully enhance the whole dial made out of white Jade. Sweeping over the dial are LF’s famous Assegai-shaped hour and minute hands, in 18-carat white gold, with a ruthenium treatment.
The brand’s iconic Classic case stands the test of time. The stainless steel 40 mm diameter case features the same harmonious contours as the very first Laurent Ferrier creation, the former “Galet” Classic Tourbillon. Smooth like a pebble, shape of the large, refined and understated models of 19th century watchmaking, notably the pocket watches. It also features the same emblematic ball-shaped crown whose gracious architecture is inspired as well by 19th-century pocket watches. Its original proportions and plump shape make winding a true pleasure.
This aesthetic feature has become a trademark feature on all watches bearing the Laurent Ferrier signature. The detailed design down to the hooked case back allows you to admire the movement, visible at the back, free from all distraction. The watchmaker can access the movement via the olivette. Its water resistance is guaranteed to a depth of 30 meters.
This Classic Micro-Rotor TimeForArt unique timepiece conceals an exceptional complication, emblematic of the Laurent Ferrier collection. Laurent’s love for exceptional classic pieces teamed with innovative and complex engines led him to kit out this unique watch with his famous FBN 229.01 caliber.
A self-winding movement, it is equipped with a natural escapement Micro-Rotor. This escapement stands out with a unidirectional pawl-fitted micro-rotor and a three-day power reserve. A movement exclusive to Laurent Ferrier, it is designed, assembled and adjusted in the Laurent Ferrier workshops. It is fitted with a silicon escapement featuring a double direct impulse on the balance. This innovation, developed by Laurent Ferrier, enables the balance to be impelled twice per oscillation, which requires two escape wheels and an appropriately shaped lever. This modern construction, combined with the use of cutting-edge materials, maximizes energy efficiency. This escapement’s excellent performance thus guarantees the balance’s high amplitude. The mechanical force required to wind the barrel spring is reduced, thereby optimizing winding of the movement.
